Michael J. Dunlap

Michael (Mike) Dunlap is an accomplished leader in the mortgage banking industry, currently holding multiple prominent roles, including President and CEO of Merchants Bank, President and COO of Merchants Bancorp, and Chairman of Merchants Capital Corp. With over 30 years of experience, Mike’s strategic expertise and dedication to excellence have been instrumental in the success of Merchants Bank and its affiliated companies.

Mike joined Merchants Bank in 2009 as Senior Vice President of Mortgage Banking and quickly ascended the ranks, becoming a key member of the Board of Directors in 2014. Beyond his roles at Merchants Bank, he serves on the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Residential Board of Governors and its Investment Management Committee.  He is also a member of the American Heart Association’s Executive Leadership Team and will serve as chair of the 2027 Indianapolis Heart Walk.

Among Mike’s accomplishments are the establishment of Merchants Bank’s warehouse lending platform and the successful launch of Merchants Mortgage, driving the organization’s growth and expansion. Since joining Merchants Bank, he has played a pivotal role in transforming the company from a growing community bank into a nationally recognized financial institution, helping build the infrastructure, operational capabilities, and leadership framework that support its continued success.

Prior to joining Merchants Bank, Mike built a strong foundation in finance and mortgage banking. He began his career as a Certified Public Accountant at KPMG and further developed his financial expertise through key positions at National City Mortgage (now part of PNC), Bank One (now JPMorgan Chase), and Waterfield Mortgage.

Mike Dunlap is a graduate of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. His ability to identify opportunities, build high-performing organizations, and execute long-term strategies has been a driving force behind the continued growth of Merchants Bank. With his entrepreneurial mindset and strategic insight, he continues to drive innovation and growth across Merchants Bank and the broader mortgage banking industry.
